On Day 4 of my EWB ‘Potable Water Project’ placement in Roatan, Honduras, I trekked to the Policarpo Storage Tank with Enrique Valdez and Kaylin Webster, in order to view for the first time the 65,000 gallon storage tank, which is located at the highest point of the Colonias. For those who haven’t caught up yet with my first initial post-departure post about Enrique, he is the ‘Water Guru’ of the piped water delivery system and network that was installed in Colonia Policarpo and Colonia Bella Vista of Sandy Bay, Roatan in 2011 by the LW4R church.

What made this trek even more memorable, apart from viewing firsthand mesmerizing natural landscapes of the Colonias, is that lovely morning my immune system was still fighting a small case of the flu! From two nights before in temperatures over 30 degrees.

We must have walked no more than 2 hours altogether, but my body was completely shattered by the end. This was really surprising as I have previously trekked 7 hours on the Great Hangman Cliffs in North Devon as part of my fundraising efforts for EWBUK and RedRUK during the last weekend of May and I felt 10 times better then, than I did that Thursday! Although Enrique bought myself and Kaylin two Baleadas (tortilla wrap filled with egg, cheese, avocardo and chicken) each for lunch and a cold bottle of Coco Cola to help us reboost our energy, my appetite was really small that day and I unfortunately just basically picked at my food that morning.

I did force myself to finish one Baleada in the end, and I took the second one home to eat as lunch for the next day!
