Out of all of the IDM guys out there, I think µ-Ziq outshines them all - at least my favourite out of the bunch. He's got a style that is a lot less individualistic and way more accessible, which confuses me to this day as it feels like he has the least amount of exposure. His albums are not perfected gems but one isn't better than the others - each of them is fantastic and make up an incredibly consistent discography, which in my opinion Aphex and Squarepusher have struggled to maintain. Lunatic Harness is a personal favourite and I would recommend you give that a listen first, and his Somerset Avenue Tracks compilation is also amazing.

I first got into µ-Ziq when Tango came out and I loved that album and have bought every album & most 12's since but I gotta say that I do find the same sounds & pitch bending that are on every single album including the Kid Spatula & Slazenger stuff does drag a little as does the fairly straight arrangement on most of his tracks, not to mention that sonically its generally not great. Not saying every track is the same and I do love so many of his tracks but I do think there has been a lot of filler. Self releasing albums is sometimes a tricky thing choosing what songs to keep and which ones to cut due to being way to close to your own music. Mike Paradinas must be one of the most underrated artist of modern times not because of any think bad but rather minimal exposure through his career. I have only recently discovered him despite listening to nothing but electronic music since 1990 and covering every genre but some how I missed µ-Ziq. This amazes me because his music is nothing short of amazing. I think if he would of signed to Warp Records he would of got more exposure and would of reached a wider audience but he chose to go it alone through his own label Planet Mu which is revered.

Its been a blessing in disguise listening to his back catalogue and his kid spatula material. Mobogenie App Download Old Version. I have never heard anyone in the electronic field match him regarding melody's. He is a master in this department along with his classic Amen break beats. The textures he paints are full of lush colours with a very soothing effect. Its like honey to the ears listening to all his tracks. I have come to the conclusion all his remix work is better than the originals themselves and there are many in number of course everybody loves 'Hasty Boom Alert' but I could never pick a favourite track simply because most of his material is Awesome and it would be impossible.

So does µ-Ziq warrant the status of similar artist like Aphex Twin, Autechre, Luke Vibert, Plaid and Square Pusher of course he does if not more so than the aforementioned. His music destroys square pusher's with ease that's not to say Tom Jenkins is weak but rather no comparison to µ-Ziq who's music is far more accessible. What I love about µ-Ziq is he has kept some of the rave ethos in his music from the hazy days of 1992 and added his own distinct sound which is like no other. He is truly unique this is what may have made him less well known as he kept it underground. I cant think of any other reason. To sum his music up in one word I would say Sublime and this man deserves far more credit for what he has achieved for electronic music. He must be an inspiration to many other artist and you cant buy that.
